The suitably titled Cipriani Downtown, which opened on Miami’s Brickell Avenue in mid-May, is only the third restaurant the Ciprani Group has opened in the U.S., the remaining restaurants being located in New York City and Los Angeles. After one year under construction, Ciprani Downtown opened at 465 Brickell Avenue in the Icon Brickell. The esteemed restaurant is a project of the young sibling pair Maggio and Ignazio Cipriani, the great grandsons of famed Venetian restaurateur Giuseppe Cipriani.
The Miami venue is only the most recent upscale location with 20 other global properties including restaurants in London, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Monte Carlo, Abu Dhabi, and Ibiza. The Cipriani Downtown is opened for lunch and dinner seven days per week and is available for private groups and celebrations. The Brickell location consists of two levels consisting of 400 seats of high-ceilinged dining spaces with picturesque views of Biscayne Bay.
“Miami is definitely a growing market, and our international clientele, a lot of them come through here on a monthly basis,” said Cipriani, who lives in New York, but who will be here for three weeks and then plans to start splitting his time between New York and Miami. “We thought there was no better time to open here.”
The main level sports towering 22-foot ceilings adorned with a sparkling pair of Murano glass chandeliers. This section is separated into two rooms sharing 180 seats. A floor-to-ceiling participation can be used to created isolated spaces within the level. The lower level has only very recently been completed and offers an outside patio with retractable doors and an outdoor grill and pizza oven.
As far as cuisine goes, Cipriani Downtown serves cocktails and wines typically running between $11 and $17. Glasses of champagne put drinkers back $18 to $23 and beers are $7. Lunch and dinner options include sashimi and signature Italian plates such as Carpaccio alla Cipriani, risotto alla primavera, and vanilla meringue. Menu options are purposely similar to Cipriani’s other locations worldwide.
